La Muneca Maria

The origin of Amealco’s handmade doll goes back to the time of the Spanish conquest of Mexico. These dolls began to be known as “Marías”, and nowadays the sale of the dolls provides sustenance for thousands of indigenous families of Amealco, Querétaro. For this reason, the doll was named by the Mexican Executive as a representation of Querétaro’s cultural heritage and Mexican traditions.

With this tour of Madrid, London, Shanghai and Sydney, the state of Querétaro aimed to publicise its cultural heritage worldwide, reaching hundreds of thousands of people across the 4 locations.
